Spelling van Ophuijsen



Spelling is a Malay spelling with Latin letters. Charles Van Ophuijsen assisted by Nawawi Soetan Ma'moer and Moehammad Taib Ibrahim Soetan compose new spelling in 1896. Guidelines grammar became known as van Ophuijsen spelling was officially recognized in 1901 the colonial government. The characteristics of these spellings are:

     Ï letters to distinguish between the letters i as a suffix and therefore must be expressed separately with diphthongs like starting with bustling. Also used to write the letter y as in Soerabaia.
     J letters to write words which, pajah, sajang, etc..
     Oe letters to write words goeroe, that the train, oemoer, etc..
     Diacritical marks, such as commas ain and Trema marks, to write the words ma'moer, 'mind, ta' pa ', etc..
